Step by Step 2013!
The CQ Health Assess Step by Step Workplace Challenge and ‘Walk Your Weight Off With Ya Mate’ came to a thrilling conclusion with the winners of this year’s Challenge being announced at The Step by Step Closing Ceremony on Friday August 2nd. Guests listened to a short presentation from Special Guest Speakers Sam and Jess O'Malley from Biggest Loser fame 2013, and heard from City Fitness trainers Chris Evangelou and Ryan Faux! They were also treated to a delicious and nutritious lunch courtesy of CQHA!

Organisers have deemed the 12 week Challenge as a fantastic success with more than 100 teams from local businesses across the Mackay region participating - equating to more than 500 participants taking steps to better health. Step by Step is a workplace walking challenge where teams of five clip on a pedometer and aim to walk 10,000 per day (as recommended by The World Health Organisation). Each year we send our teams on a virtual trek, this year they 'walked to Mt Kilimanjaro' in support of CQ Health Assess Co-ordinator Nicole Armitage who plans to climb the mountain in November. Nicole is climbing Mt K to raise funds and awareness for Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Research. You can find more info here http://www.everydayhero.com.au/CQHealthAssess

While a free version of The Step by Step Challenge has been running for three years, the program was given an extra boost in 2013 thanks to support from Mackay Area Industry Network (MAIN) who received funding for the initiative from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. Thanks to this funding, CQ Health Assess were able to offer free pre and post health screening, online education modules and tools and much more to participating steppers.

So ... now for the WINNERS ...

Step by Step Champions 2013 'The Urban Roadsters' from Isaac Region Council with 10,693,324 steps.

Runners Up 2013 'The Library Legends' from Mackay Regional Council with 10,514,729 steps

Best Fun-Raiser Award (raising funds and awareness for Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Research) 'Parklands Prancersise' who raised more than $500!

Best Team Captain Brooke Beikoff from team 'Red Hot Chilli Steppers'

CQ Health Assess Co-ordinator Nicole Armitage said that while the actual challenge only runs for three months each year, participants can expect the health benefits to last a lifetime.

Ms Armitage said the Workplace Challenge was all about increasing incidental exercise, in a practical and inexpensive way. “It is free to participate in Step by Step, it supports employee health, encourages some healthy competition in the workplace and increases productivity, what’s not to love!”

CQ Health Assess would like to sincerely thank Step by Step major sponsor Melissa Green from The Bank of Queensland together with City Fitness, Pioneer Podiatry, Spine and Sports Physio and Parklands Mackay Business Hub. Special mention also to www.ericbowdenphotography.com.au who is our event photographer!

The Step by Step Workplace Challenge will run again next year - so watch this space to get involved!
