Oh What A Night!

The CQ Health Assess 'Restyle to Upstyle' Charity Ball was held Saturday August 24th at the Mackay Surf Club. Thanks to our guests and generous sponsors we raised funds and awareness for Australian Heart and Diabetes Research Institute Baker IDI.

The theme of the Ball was 'Restyle to Upstyle'! Guests had a great time recycling fashions; whether it was a tired item from their wardrobe, a friend's wardrobe, or a 'new' creation from the local Op Shop we had everything from sophisticated to outrageous.

Eric Bowden Photography was there on the night to capture all the fun, you can check out or purchase the official pictures here http://www.ericbowdenphotography.com.au/galleries/cq-health-assess-ball-2013

The Cause

This November CQ Health Assess Co-ordinator Nicole Armitage is climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to raise money for Australia’s internationally renowned Heart and Diabetes Research Institute Baker IDI. Baker IDI is on a mission to reduce death, disability and suffering from heart disease, stroke and diabetes. We think they are an organisation worth backing – and here’s why …

  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death In Australia with nearly 50,000 lives lost every year
  • Every 10 minutes an Australian dies from heart attack or stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia with over one million people diagnosed and another two million undiagnosed or living with ‘pre-diabetes’
  • Type 1 Diabetes in children and adolescents is inexplicably growing by six per cent each year 80 per cent of people with diabetes will suffer complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, amputation and kidney disease

What are Baker IDI doing? Since 1926 their researchers have been responsible for ground breaking advances in medical research including; discovering the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, scientifically proving the benefits of exercise on the cardiovascular system and the role of mental health in heart disease, pioneering developments in open heart surgery and developing preventative medicine for heart attack and stroke.

Thanks to our most excellent sponsors for making the night a great success!
